DALE CITY - (Press Release) Dale City Track Club (DCTC) has been awarded the 2018 Track and Field District Club of the Year by the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) for Virginia. The award was based on the team's outstanding success and merit working with today’s youth, tomorrow’s stars.
To qualify, the team was required to demonstrate excellence in the sport and involvement in the community. AAU rated their performance, record and previous honors. The club’s qualifications included:
- Winning the 2017 National Championship for their 8 and under Boys 4x100 Relay Team
- Winning the 2018 Indoor National Championship for their 9&10 Girls 4x200 Relay
- Earning a team record of 58 athletes qualifying for the National Junior Olympic Games
- Melvin Forest (DCTC Athlete), Hylton High School earning an award for Athletic Achievement
- Sydney Banks (DCTC Athlete), Osbourn Park High School becoming two-time state high jump champion and breaking the state record
- Junior Olympic athletes being recognized in Inside Nova newspaper
- Multiple athletes qualifying for Virginia High School State Championships
- Making a live appearance on Track and Field Sports talk show
- Being recognized in Prince William Living magazine for AAU Indoor Championship success
The team also had to document its contribution to the sport overall. Head Coach Monte Evans attributes their success in this area to a dedicated coaching staff working together to get the best out of their youth athletically and academically, in addition to year-round training opportunities for their athletes and tremendous parent support. For example, coaches sponsored fifteen athletes from underserved communities to the spring and indoor season.
