Motorcycle driver killed in Warrenton Road crash, sheriff says

UPDATE, 12:55 p.m.: A motorcycle driver died at the scene after a vehicle struck the motorcycle on Warrenton Road in Stafford County, the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday. The crash was at the intersection of Village Parkway and Warrenton Road at about 4:50 a.m.

The sheriff’s office said the motorcycle had broken down in the left through lane when the vehicle hit it. Both directions were closed while medical aid was given and the Traffic Safety Unit started its investigation. The road reopened a few hours later. The office said the driver was pronounced dead at the scene and next of kin has been notified. It did not release a name. It said the initial investigation shows no indication that impairment or speed was a factor. The office asked anyone with information or camera footage to contact Deputy Martin at [email protected] or 540-658-4450.

At approximately 4:50 a.m., on October 8, 2026, the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office responded to an auto accident involving a motorcycle and a vehicle at the intersection of Village Parkway and Warrenton Road.

Information was provided that the motorcycle had broken down in the left through lane when it was struck by the vehicle.

Both Northbound and Southbound lanes on Warrenton Road were shut down for an extended period of time while medical aid was provided and the Traffic Safety Unit conducted its preliminary investigation. The road was reopened a few hours later.

The motorcycle driver was pronounced deceased at the scene. Their next of kin has been notified.

Based on our initial investigation, there is no indication that impairment or speed was a factor in the accident at this time.

Earlier, 10:58 a.m.: Before it released those details, the sheriff’s office told Potomac Local News it had no comment on whether the crash was fatal, and a spokesman said to file a public-records request.

The Virginia Department of Transportation said at 10:20 a.m. that all lanes on Route 17 near Village Parkway are open after the earlier crash. The sheriff’s office said at 9:44 a.m. that all southbound lanes on Warrenton Road had reopened, and at 7:35 a.m. that one northbound lane had reopened.

One southbound lane is open on Warrenton Road in Stafford County after a Thursday morning crash, and the northbound lanes remain closed, the Virginia Department of Transportation and the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office said. VDOT calls the road Route 17.

VDOT’s 7 a.m. update said one southbound lane is open and all northbound lanes remain closed at Village Parkway. The sheriff’s office, in a 7:08 a.m. post, said one southbound lane had reopened and told drivers to follow police directions and use alternate routes. The office’s earlier post put the closure near Village Center Drive and gave southbound traffic a detour from Village Parkway to University Boulevard. VDOT’s 6:50 a.m. release said the crash was near Village Parkway, that a detour was in place, and that no reopening time was available. Neither agency named injuries, the vehicles, or when the crash happened.

All Northbound and Southbound lanes on Warrenton Road near Village Center Drive will be closed for an extended period of time due to an auto accident. For Southbound traffic, please use Village Parkway to University Boulevard as a detour.
