Multiple DUI Arrests in Stafford County Over the Weekend

In a series of incidents over the weekend, Stafford County law enforcement made several DUI arrests. The most serious incident involved a hit-and-run on the I-95 Northbound Exit Ramp at Courthouse Road. A 42-year-old Stafford man was apprehended after admitting to rear-ending another vehicle and fleeing the scene. He was found in his car with a strong odor of alcohol and was charged with DUI and hit and run.

Another notable incident occurred on Albion Lane, where a 23-year-old woman from King George was involved in a single-vehicle accident. After being found with glassy eyes and slurred speech, she was arrested and charged with multiple offenses, including DUI, obstruction of justice, and assaulting an officer.

Additional arrests included a 29-year-old Stafford man involved in a rollover crash, a 45-year-old Maryland woman stopped for speeding, and a 52-year-old Stafford man driving erratically on I-95. All were charged with DUI and related offenses.

Finally, a 26-year-old Manassas woman was arrested on I-95 for DUI with an elevated blood alcohol content after weaving between lanes. She was also held on a secured bond.

I-95 Northbound Exit Ramp / Courthouse Road, 12/5 10:36 p.m. Deputy F. A. Martinez responded to this intersection for a hit and run accident. The victim advised that they were rear-ended by another vehicle and the suspect vehicle failed to stop. A vehicle description and registration were provided. Deputy S. M. Kotter responded to assist with the investigation and was able to develop a phone number associated with the suspect vehicle. Deputy Kotter made contact with the subject who admitted to being the driver and admitted not stopping for the accident. Deputy Kotter responded to the subject’s address and located the subject still seated in the driver’s seat of the vehicle. Deputy Kotter could smell a heavy odor of alcoholic beverage coming from the driver’s breath. The driver was identified as Jonathan Yepes, 42, of Stafford. After administering field sobriety tests, Yepes was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, with an elevated blood alcohol content, and hit and run. Yepes was held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail under a secured bond.

Albion Lane / Kings Highway, 12/6 1:59 a.m. Deputy W. E. Trainor responded to this area for a report of a single vehicle accident. Deputy Trainor located the vehicle down off of an embankment with major damage to the vehicle. Deputy Trainor began speaking with the driver and noticed the driver had glassy, bloodshot eyes and slurred speech. After administering field sobriety tests, the driver was taken into custody. The driver was identified as Samantha Jones, 23, of King George. Jones became combative and argumentative, including shoulder checking a deputy and refusing to submit to a breath test. The combative and argumentative behavior continued all the way through Jones’ appearance at the Magistrate’s Office. Jones was charged with driving under the influence, obstruction of justice, assault and battery of a law enforcement officer, refusal to submit to a breath test, reckless driving, and a seat belt violation. Jones was held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail on a secured bond.

Magnolia Road / Joshua Road, 12/6 1:42 a.m. Deputy S. Waheed responded to a rollover crash near this intersection. A subject was on scene of the crash and indicated that their brother was the driver of the vehicle. The driver was located at his home address. Contact was made with the driver and while speaking with him, Deputy Waheed observed the driver to be unsteady on his feet. Additionally, the driver had glassy, bloodshot eyes and slurred speech. After performing field sobriety tests, the driver was taken into custody. The driver was identified as Luis Torres Cano, 29, of Stafford. Cano was charged with driving under the influence and held on a secured bond at the Rappahannock Regional Jail.
Coachman Circle / Richmond Highway, 12/6 11:44 p.m. Sergeant E. E. West conducted a traffic stop in this area on a vehicle that was speeding and failing to maintain the lane of travel. Deputy R. T. Philippsen responded to assist with the investigation. Upon making contact with the driver, Deputy Philippsen detected a strong odor of alcoholic beverages. After administering field sobriety tests, the driver was taken into custody. The driver was identified as Jessica Waller, 45, of Fort Meade, Maryland. Waller was charged with driving under the influence, speeding, and the traffic lane violation. Waller was held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail on an unsecured bond.

Southbound I-95 at Courthouse Road, 12/7 1:58 a.m. Sergeant E. E. West conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that was driving erratically and failing to maintain the lane of travel. Sergeant West made contact with the driver who had red, glassy eyes and an odor of alcoholic beverage emanating from their person. After administering field sobriety tests, the driver was taken into custody. The driver was identified as Martees Curtis, 52, of Stafford. Curtis was charged with driving under the influence, reckless driving, and failure to maintain lane. Curtis was held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail on a secured bond.

Southbound I-95 at Mile Marker 140.6, 12/7 9:21 a.m. Sergeant R. K. Pinkard responded to this area for a call about a vehicle weaving into other lanes on the interstate. A vehicle description and registration were provided. Sergeant Pinkard located the vehicle and observed the vehicle failing to maintain the lane of travel. Sergeant Pinkard conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and made contact with the driver. Upon making contact with the driver, Sergeant Pinkard detected a strong odor of alcoholic beverages emanating from their person. It was also noticed that the driver had red, bloodshot eyes and slurred speech. After administering field sobriety tests, the driver was taken into custody. The driver was identified as Catherine Alvarado Lopez, 26, of Manassas. Lopez was charged with driving under the influence, with an elevated blood alcohol content, and failure to maintain lane of travel. Lopez was held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail under a secured bond.
