New urgent care facility opens in Marumsco Plaza

A new urgent care facility is bringing flu vaccines and much more, to the people who live and work in Woodbridge.

American Family Care (AFC), which provides primary, urgent care, and occupational medicine, opened its newest location at 14087 Richmond Highway in the Marumsco Plaza Shopping Center.

“Our new facility is staffed with skilled medical professionals who are deeply committed to providing medical care,” explains Dr. John T. Carmack, Medical Director of AFC Woodbridge. “We are opening just in time for flu season and our medical team is equipped to administer vaccines as well as test patients who are displaying flu-like symptoms.”

After two slow years of the flu, the virus is back this year. Australia, which has its flu season between May and September, has already seen more flu cases than it did in 2019.

As recommended by officials with The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), AFC staff urges everyone to get a flu shot by the end of October.

“There is a readily available option to help keep the flu at bay this year, the flu shot,” says Dr. Bruce Irwin, M.D., CEO and founder of American Family Care. “AFC is ready to help the Woodbridge community prepare for this year’s flu season on your time. We know you’re busy, so we are open every day. You can make an appointment or stop by whenever is convenient.”

AFC’s on-site laboratory provides flu and coronavirus testing, digital x-rays, Occupational Health Exams and Workers’ Compensation Cases, inclduing D.O.T. physicals, urine drug screens and breath alcohol tests.

The clinic is open seven days a week, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
