The Board of Directors of Northern Virginia Food Rescue (NOVA-FR) today announced that Chief Executive Officer, Aaron Tolson, departed from the organization on July 26, 2022.
The NOVA-FR board will be working together under the guidance of President Erika C. Spalding to share the duties of the CEO until a new leader is named. A search for a new CEO will begin immediately. The NOVA-FR Board of Directors and staff are committed to our mission of creating an innovative network of donors, volunteers, and distribution partners to improve food resiliency and accessibility for our Northern Virginia community.
Tolson grew the organization which received large donations of cash from local governments during the coronavirus pandemic.
“Aaron and I share a passion for ending hunger in our community. However, we have found that he and the board have differing ideas on how to fulfill our mission. After conversations with one another, and our board of directors, we have agreed to part ways. We are grateful for what Aaron has contributed during his time with us,” said Erika C. Spalding, president of the NOVA-FR Board of Directors.
Northern Virginia Food Rescue has worked to end hunger and reduce greenhouse gas emissions in Northern Virginia. In the fiscal year 2021, the charity recovered over 949,000 pounds of food that would have otherwise been tossed out, redistributed over 13.2 million pounds of food, mitigated over 512,000 pounds of CO2, and provided over 13.4 million meals to individuals in need in our community.
Northern Virginia Food Rescue focuses its efforts on Prince William, Fairfax, and Fauquier counties. Using the Northern Virginia Food Rescue App, volunteers mobilize throughout the community to redistribute unused food from donor partners and deliver that food to distribution partners.
The charity recently launched a new program, Fauquier Food Rescue, serving residents of Fauquier County.
