A new Chick-fil-A could be coming to the Dumfries area.
The fast-food restaurant with a cult following wants to build a 5,000 square-foot store at Route 1 and Pine Bluff Drive. The restaurant known for its chicken sandwiches would replace an old Applebees restaurant at 3330 Pine Bluff Drive.
The restaurant would sit just north of Dumfries, next to a Aldi grocery store.
Following a request from the fast-food restaurant, the Prince William County Planning Commission will hear a case for a special-use permit required to operate a drive-through restaurant in the county at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 13. Residents may sign up by 5 p.m. Tuesday, April 12, to speak remotely or attend the meeting and speak in person.
According to county documents, two nearby would-be neighbors of the new restaurant support the new venture because it would replace the shuttered Applebees.
In addition to requesting a permit for a drive-through, Chick-fil-A also wants to add a freestanding sign along Route 1 and fly a bigger U.S. flag than what’s permitted by the current flag ordinance.
The Planning Commission has until July 12 to make a reccomendation on the SUP. Once it does, the case will head to the Board of County Supervisors for approval.
According to county documents, the new Chick-fil-A is favored by the county’s planning staff, which recommended the commission approve the special-use permit.
Another Chick-fil-A two miles away on Fettler Park Drive near Dumfries opened in 2015.
