Leadership Prince William is accepting new applications for students for its 2023 signature program.
The program attracts professionals from private businesses and governments who want to learn more about the inner workings of the region. This year’s class will have more than 30 students for the first time since 2020 when classes were downsized due to the coronavirus.
To be considered for a slot, students must live or work in Prince William County, Manassas, or Manassas Park for at least one year before starting the class, be at least 25 years old, and be actively engaged committed to progress in the region. The tuition is $3,500, and some scholarships are available.
The year begins on September 28 and 29 with a retreat at a resort in the Shenandoah National Park. Afterward, classes meet monthly through May. A commencement ceremony takes place in June.
“Participants also represent a range of industries and positions within those industries. Some put themselves through the program as community activists or those commuting out of the area but want to be more in touch with their community and how they can start making an impact,” said Leadership Prince William Director Andrea Money.
In the program, students can meet some people in leadership positions in the community, including chiefs of police and fire and rescue, superintendents of public schools, the heads of various government departments, elected officials.
Two upcoming information sessions are scheduled for the program on March 31, and May 26. The deadline to apply for admission is 5 p.m. Friday, June 17.
Leadership Prince William began in 2007 as a collaboration between the Prince William-Greater Manassas Chamber of Commerce and the Prince William Regional Chamber of Commerce. Both merged in 2010 to form the Prince William Chamber of Commerce. Members of the first class of 2008 were chosen by business and community leaders, and subsequently became ambassadors for the program.
