Soon, it could be selling cups of joe to residents of Stafford County and Interstate 95 travelers. Ohio-based Dunham Development applied for a conditional use permit for a drive-through business on Route 17 near Falmouth.
The county’s Planning Commission would need to hear the case, and, afterward, the Board of County Supervisors has the authority to approve the permit.
If approved, a Black Rifle Coffee Company would open on an acre and a half of land at 591 Warrenton Road. The shop would replace a shuttered Ponderosa Steakhouse restaurant on the southbound side of the road, and would take five to eight months to build, according to a spokesman for Dunham Development.
According to the company website, the location would be the first in Virginia. The company plans to open a store in Greenville, N.C. that will feature an espresso bar, breakfast and lunch options, multiple coffee choices, outdoor seating, a dog park, and company merchandise like t-shirts and hats.
The North Carolina location will operate from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. until 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
The Black Rifle Coffee Company was founded in 2014 and is a veteran-owned franchised company. There are over 2,100 Black Rifle Coffee Company dealers in the U.S. and 14 countries.
The company operates 10 brick-and-mortar stores. According to Business Insider, the company plans to open 78 new franchise locations by 2023.
According to county documents, the company has experienced 99% growth from 2019-to 2020, and 2020 gross revenues exceeded $164 million.
