One of the region’s largest shopping malls remains closed today due to too the coronavirus outbreak.
Potomac Mills mall in Woodbridge was set to reopen today when management officials announced on March 18 it would temporarily close the center.
A new message posted today to the mall’s website notes the mall will continue to be closed on a temporary basis. It does not give a date when the mall is expected to reopen.
Gov. Ralph Northam has ordered all non-essential businesses in the state closed.
The U.S. economy has been upended in the wake of the coronavirus. Last week, the government reported more than 3 million people filed for unemployment insurance after businesses forced to close due to the pandemic have announced massive layoffs.
The most updated coronavirus numbers from the Virginia Health Department state there are 1,020 cases in the commonwealth, (13o more than yesterday) 25 people have died (two more than yesterday), and 136 people are hospitalized (24 more than yesterday).
Potomac Mills mall is located at 2700 Potomac Mills Circle in Woodbridge.
