On April 18, Prince William police responded to a call from a Days Inn location on New Market Court in Manassas to investigate an assault.
According to Prince William police, the victim, a 42-year old Centreville woman, reported that a known acquaintance came to her hotel room, uninvited, and grabbed her around her neck.
The victim stated that the suspect, 54-year old Robert Darrell Umphreys, strangled her until she lost consciousness, said a Prince William police release.
When the victim regained consciousness, she stated that Umphreys was gone, said Prince William police.
Following an investigation, Prince William police officers obtained a warrant and arrested Umphreys at his residence without incident. He is currently being charged with strangulation and is being held without bond.
