Foreigner, Styx, Football (American Style) Top Weekend’s Backyard Events

A youth football camp held by the NFL’s Ahmad Brooks, a C.D. Hylton High School graduate from Woodbridge, is just one of the many events happening in our area this weekend.

Foreigner, Styx: The Soundtrack of Summer Tour with Don Felder — Friday 

A trio of classic-rock giants will hit the road together this summer for a two-and-a-half-month tour that winds across the U.S. Foreigner, Styx and Don Felder are also set to release their soundtrack to the tour this year. As part of the 72 event tour they are rocking their way into the Jiffy Lube Live on Friday, June 20.

The show will start at 7 p.m. at Jiffy Lube Live in Bristow. Tickets for the event are on sale on the venue’s website.

Ahmad Brooks Camp 55 Youth Football Camp — Saturday 

San Fransisco 49ers Linebacker Ahmad Brooks will host a USA Football FUNdamentals clinic for area youth ages 6-17 at 7:30 a.m. – 1:30 p. m, Saturday, June 21, 2014 at Hylton High School in Woodbridge. The free, one-day clinic is designed to introduce to football by teaching basic skills in a fun and energetic environment.

Brooks attended Hylton High School from 1999 to 2001 and was named USA Today’s National Defensive Player of the year after the 2001 season.

It is free to attend the clinic. Online registration is recommended in order to snag one of the 250 spots available.

Ride for Warriors Finishline Party — Saturday

The Ride for Warriors Finishline party will benefit military service men and women who are at military hospitals who are able and willing to take respite at the Serving our Willing Warriors Bull Run Retreat in Haymarket. A poker run will be held on Saturday starting at 10:30 a.m. to raise money for the organization, and a “finish line” concert will be held afterward as a celebration of the event and “warriors” organization.

It will cost $25 per biker, $15 per passenger to participate in the poker run. Admission to the concert is free. The event will take place at the Willing Warriors Retreat at 16013 Waterfall Road in Haymarket.

Ben Lomond Herb Garden Tea

Summer is here and the gardens are in full bloom! Join historian Stacey Hawkins as she explains the history and uses of herbs, many of which can be found in your own back yard. Afterward, join her for a tea using many of the herbs found in the Ben Lomond Kitchen Garden.

A tour of Ben Lomond Historic Site on Sudley Manor Drive near Manassas  is also included. Call 703-367-7872 to make reservations.

To celebrate Air Quality Awareness Week (May 6-10, 2024), Clean Air Partners is working with A Few Cool Hardware Stores to exchange DC, Maryland and Virginia residents’ gas-powered lawnmowers, trimmers, and leaf blowers at select Ace Hardware locations in the region. DMV residents who turn in their gas-powered lawn tools will receive a FREE Ego Power+ replacement including batteries and chargers, while supplies last.

Compared to gas, electric lawn equipment can reduce emissions, noise pollution, health risks and maintenance costs and time. The program aims to remove about a hundred gas-powered polluting tools from yards in the greater Baltimore-Washington region.

The exchanges will take place the weekends of May 17-19, 2024, and May 31-June 2, 2024, at A Few Cool Hardware Stores network of employee-owned Ace Hardware stores in the DC and Baltimore metro areas.
