Traffic Stops Expected on Rt. 17

All travelers on Rt. 17 in Stafford during February 4 to February 6 should expect a five to ten minute delay overnight, while utility workers lift cables through the traffic lanes.

Travel lanes going North and South will remain open, but the flow of traffic will be stopped intermittently, while the cables are being lifted.

This delay is a part of the work on a $48.9 million dollar project to widen Rt. 17, from its existing four lanes to six lanes. This expansion will take place for nearly 2 miles, in the stretch between McLane Drive and Stafford Lakes Parkway.

The project is set to be complete on December 1, 2016.

More information from a VDOT release:

Between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. each evening, traffic will be stopped several times for up to 10 minutes between McLane Drive and Banks Ford Parkway so workers lift the cables across the road. Motorists may experience minor delays.

Utility providers are relocating utility lines as VDOT and its contractor widen Route 17.
