The Teen Camp at the Hylton Boys & Girls Clubs is one of three unique camps being offered this summer, the other two camps are Sports Camp and Youth Camp. Teen camp is a fun and exciting opportunity for teens to enjoy activities, like field trips to Kings Dominion, and to learn education and career development skills.
As part of the career planning portion of the program, teen campers are provided with a variety of job shadowing experiences. The Hylton Boys & Girls Club also partners with individuals and businesses from a variety of professions who volunteer to do career development activities with the teens. One such partner is the Old Navy store, in Springfield, VA. The store has been a regular summer career program partner with the Hylton Boys & Girls Clubs for the past few years.
During the summer Old Navy sends volunteers to the Club to show teens how to interview properly and to educate them about ways to get and keep a job. They also host an annual job shadowing day for the teens. On July 22nd members of the Teen Camp took a trip to the Old Navy and gained hands retail and sales experience as they worked at the store for the day. The teens were able to practice their customer service skills, run the cash register and learn how to fold and restock clothes properly. The experience was one of a kind and opened the teens’ minds to world of possible job opportunities that are available for them.
