NORTH STAFFORD, Va. — Authorities arrested a man who they said tried to cash a forged check at a North Stafford bank.
Stafford Sheriff’s deputies were called to a Wells Fargo bank on Va. 610 just after 11 a.m. Monday for a report of a forgery in progress. Bank employees said a man in a gray suit walked in and tried to cash a check for $7,000, said Stafford Sheriff’s spokesman Bill Kennedy.
Both the signature and information on the check were erroneous, said Kennedy.
A man matching the description provided by bank tellers, who was found a short time later, told authorities he got the check from “some guy” and that he was going to cash it for him. After it was cashed, that “some guy” was going to meet him at the bank and share some of the cash, said Kennedy.
The suspect also told deputies he drove from his home in Washington, D.C. to Stafford to cash the check.
As it turns out, the “some guy” never showed up and the suspect was arrested.
Salvador Rolda, 54, of no fixed address, is charged with forgery of a bank, obtaining money under false pretenses, and credit card larceny, said Kennedy. He was held without bond.
