Stafford County, Va. — Firefighters in Stafford County worked over the Labor Day holiday weekend to fill the boot.
More than $33,500 was collected for the Muscular Dystrophy Association, which treats over 40 neuromuscular diseases that affect people of all ages, said Stafford fire and rescue spokesman Mark Doyle.
Fire crews over the holiday weekend were, among other places, positioned along Va. 610 in North Stafford at the Stafford Marketplace, said Doyle.
The annual Fill the Boot campaign began at a barbeque kickoff at Fire Station 12 at Barea in south Stafford on Aug. 24 and continued through Monday.
The Fill the Boot campaign coincides with the annual MDA Labor Day Telethon which raised $61.5 million this year.
