In the Potomac Communities, summer is going out like a lion.

The remnants of Tropical Storm Lee that impacted Louisiana and the Gulf Coast over the Labor Day holiday weekend now has Northern Virginia in its cross hairs, already prompting a flash flood watch for Prince William and Stafford counties in effect between now and Tuesday night.

Lee, now a tropical depression, will interact with a slow moving cold front and will produce one to two inches of rainfall in the area, taking its toll on already swollen creeks and rivers due to Hurricane Irene, stated the National Weather Service.

The rain threat stays with us for the remainder of the week, as showers and thunderstorms remain in the forecast through Sunday.

If creeks do rise out of the beds, the weather service urges residents with homes in low-lying areas to take higher ground and for motorists not to drive through rising waters.

Also on the weather radar, Hurricane Katia currently in the Atlantic is expected to approach the North Carolina coast but then make a sharp turn back out to sea.
