Stafford County, Va. — Stafford County has declared a local state of emergency in advance of Hurricane Irene, and will set up an emergency shelter at Brooke Point High School.
In addition to the declaration, a special phone line has been set up for residents who have non-emergency questions about the storm and its impacts on the area. Residents can call 540-659-5362 to reach operators on the special line.
Those who have life-threatening emergencies should continue to dial 911, said Stafford spokeswoman Cathy Riddle.
County officials have not imposed a curfew as part of the state of emergency.
