Kids Expo a Hit

By Kristina Schnack Kotlus

With moon bounces in the show barn and the Easter Bunny in the gazebo, the Prince William County Kids Expo took over the fairgrounds in Manassas for a day devoted to the area’s youngest residents.  Some three dozen exhibitors set up shop to reach an expected crowd of 5,000 parents and children, officials said.

The expo originally began as a service of the Prince William County Park Authority but was eventually dropped due to budgetary restrictions, shared Park Authority representatives.  After the park authority dropped the program, the  children’s clothing store Gymboree brought it back, and then passed the torch again to Mona Tisler, who also runs the Classy Kids Consignment Sale.

“This is a really great program for parents to have, so we are happy to continue providing it and have done quite a bit of advertising to make sure everyone comes out,” said Tisler.

The event is designed to engage both parents and children, with information for parents and several vendors offering prizes or activities for children.  Businesses represented ranged from preschools to county services, from mom-owned businesses to women’s empowerment groups.

The Prince William County Kids Expo is a yearly event.
