North Stafford, Va. –– Sheriff’s deputies said a mob scene developed in North Stafford on Saturday night.
Someone who lives on Markham Way, off Spring Lake Drive and Shelton Shop Road, called the sheriff’s department and reported several people standing on the street outside his home, about 11 p.m.
The deputy arrived and saw at least 50 people hovering around a man who was on the ground being beaten. The deputy jumped into the crowd, protected the victim, and was able to detain one of the men who appeared to be involved in the beating, said Stafford sheriff’s spokesman Bill Kennedy.
When it was clear the victim did not suffer life-threatening injuries, sheriff’s deputies arrested 21-year-old D’shawn Harris, of 1522 Walnut Street in Woodbridge, charging him with assault by mob and disorderly conduct, said Kennedy.
Harris reportedly told authorities he was there to assist the victim, but the victim said he didn’t know Harris, said Kennedy.
