Construction of eight bridges along Interstate 95 will lead to full traffic stops on both I-95 northbound and southbound between midnight and 3 a.m. this week in the Fredericksburg area.

Drivers with destinations outside the Fredericksburg area should consider an alternate route to avoid major delays, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.

Full traffic stops on Interstate 95 are scheduled to continue this week and next week for bridge work as part of the 95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension project.

Weather permitting, crews will resume operations to lift and install bridge beams for a replacement American Legion Road overpass. This overpass is under construction at mile marker 138 in Stafford County, between exit 140 (Courthouse Road) and exit 136 (Centreport Parkway).

The OmniRide Commissioners will be asked to approve a series of sweeping service changes to commuter and local bus routes beginning in December. The changes include a bus to Reston, a first for OmniRide.

The proposed changes come as the Interstate 66 E-ZPass Express Lanes open to traffic. In addition, changes are also being proposed to restructure some eastern commuter routes to operate into Woodbridge and Dale City areas that currently do not have direct transit service or to streamline operations for more efficient commuter service.

(PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY GOVERNMENT) — A small gathering, including Prince William Board of County Supervisors Chair At-Large Ann Wheeler and Neabsco District Supervisor Victor Angry, Prince William County staff, and the public, met recently for a ribbon cutting at a new sidewalk along Gemini Way.

According to Prince William County Department of Transportation Director Rick Canizales, a new sidewalk running along Gemini Way, which cuts the corner between Minnieville Road and Dale Boulevard, replaced a “goat path” worn into the grass from people walking along the side of the road.

The project, near the George Mason University Science and Technology Campus near Manassas, is a quadrant intersection that resembles a jughandle when viewed from above, that will create a new roadway connecting Prince William Parkway to University Boulevard, where it connects with Discovery Boulevard.

The project will eliminate left turns at the Prince William Parkway and University Boulevard intersection to reduce the number of signal phases and improve throughput along Prince William Parkway.
