County still considering options for Dumfries homeless shelter

Prince William County officials are still weighing their options when it comes to spending federal funds to put a homeless shelter in Dumfries.

County Supervisor Andrea Bailey, who represents the Potomac District which encompasses the town, asked the town’s Planning Commission to remove from its Sept. 14 agenda a request to amend the town’s zoning ordinance to allow homeless shelters in the town’s B1 zoning district. Bailey didn’t say why she made the request, and today she declined to comment for this story.

Manassas recycling coordinator tapped to lead statewide association

Manassas City Refuse and Recycling Coordinator Monica Boehringer is the new president of the Virginia Recycling Association. Boehringer has served on the association’s board since 2018 and most recently was the board’s vice president.

The appointment comes as the association brought on four new board members and a new board chair earlier in September.

Stafford upgrades sewer repair strategy to avoid road closures

This year, Stafford County will improve sewer infrastructure using a new technique, inversion lining, to avoid the usual destructive and lengthy road closures.

With over 500 miles of underground sewer pipes, these road closures are standard when it comes time to replace or repair aging sewer pipes.

Home values soar in Greater Manassas area, highest in Virginia

Two cities in our region have seen home values blossom in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

Home values in Manassas Park and Manassas have increased 32 percent and 28 percent, respectively.
