Manassas City Police said two men died and a third was in stable condition after a shooting Wednesday morning at United Rentals, 9415 Wellington Road. The joint release with Virginia State Police named the dead as Ricky Lamot, 48, and Christopher Serrano, 33. Police said Marvin Grant, 37, of Charlotte, N.C., an employee, fled in a silver Toyota Camry before officers arrived at 7:14 a.m. Virginia State Police said Grant died after a self-inflicted gunshot wound during a stop on Interstate 81 in Augusta County.
The afternoon release contradicts Chief Douglas W. Keen’s morning briefing, which said all three workers were in critical condition and that Grant was still being sought after leaving Northern Virginia. The release does not name the hospitals Keen gave. The morning alert described a gray Camry or Corolla. The release says the car was silver. Motive was not given. House of Mercy, Prince William County’s largest food pantry, launched a $350,000 “Room for Mercy” campaign Tuesday to lease 4,500 square feet of adjacent space in Manassas after warehouse storage shrank this summer. The Manassas nonprofit says the 30-day drive ends Oct. 31 and would restore thrift-store floor space now used for overflow, protect Christmas with Mercy gifts for more than 1,300 children, and let the pantry become a client-choice market.

America Nepal Helping Society, a Manassas nonprofit founded in 2008, says it raised and delivered $92,964 from 167 donors for flood and landslide relief in Nepal’s Rasuwa–Bhotekoshi region. A Virginia delegation presented the check to Nepal’s government in New York during a meeting with Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal at a program hosted by the Consulate General of Nepal, the group said in a press release forwarded Sunday by Sen. Danica Roem.

Although happy to see that the City of Manassas has some shred of dignity left, per usual, it seems not enough. I am speaking of the terrible death of Ashley, but worse, the seemingly lost leadership of this town and even the Commonwealth.

Patriot High School Principal David Van Gelder told families and staff Saturday that one of the Nokesville school’s students was killed Friday night in the shooting at First Friday in Old Town Manassas.
“It is with profound sadness that I share that one of our students lost her life during the tragic shooting that occurred Friday evening at the First Friday event in Old Town Manassas,” Van Gelder wrote. “We are working with her family to provide any needed support, and my thoughts and deepest condolences are with all those who knew and cared for her.”
Manassas City Council member Tom Osina says he wants to succeed Mayor Michelle Davis-Younger — first as the council’s interim pick, then as the Democratic nominee whenever voters get a say.

Friends, neighbors and other residents gathered Saturday night at the Manassas train station to remember a 16-year-old girl killed a day earlier during First Friday in Old Town.
The informal vigil was organized by community members, not the city. Organizers had asked people to bring a candle, a flower, a photo or a memory. By nightfall, bouquets, prayer candles and a balloon lined the platform under the depot canopy, a few steps from the railroad tracks where police say the shooting unfolded Friday night.
