Five Prince William County Public School (PWCS) students were among six finalists selected to present at the 33rd annual Martin Luther King Jr. (MLK) Oratorical Competition and Program on January 16, 2023.
This event is held each year in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on the MLK Day holiday by the Prince William County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. (PWCAC-DST). The speeches are one component of the celebration, now in its 38th year, that will be broadcast as a free virtual event on the chapter’s YouTube Channel, PWCAC DST YouTube Channel (PWCAC-DST-MEDIA), at 11 a.m. on Monday, January 16.
The University of Mary Washington and Stafford County Public Schools have been awarded a $200,000 grant from the Virginia Department of Education to begin planning for a lab school to focus on computer and data science.

The Prince William County School Board and the union seeking to represent its employees are in another contentious back-and-forth, this week over a critical press release from the union and a letter sent by school division attorneys in response.
Brooke Point, Colonial Forge, and Mountain View High Schools have earned recognition as Working in Support of Education (W!se) Financial Literacy Blue Star Schools for the 2021-2022 school year for outstanding student performance on the W!se Financial Literacy Certification Test.
To receive this distinction, a school testing more than ten students must achieve an 80% passing rate on the W!se Financial Literacy Certification Test. Additionally, the school must have either a majority of students in a given grade level take the test, or have the students who took the test achieve a minimum average score of 85%.
Germanna Community College and its Educational Foundation thanked the Stafford Economic Development Authority for its support in bringing a new campus to the county during a check presentation ceremony on Tuesday, November 29.
The Stafford EDA presented the GCC Real Estate Foundation with a check for $750,000 toward the new campus at 25 Center Street in North Stafford, off Garrisonville Road.

Stephen Spiker announced today that he is running for Prince William County School Board, representing the Coles District.
Spiker and his wife, Danielle, are the parents of three boys, ages 8, 6, and 3, including two who currently attend Signal Hill Elementary School. He is running to restore power to parents on the School Board and provide a quality education for all kids.

Prince William County Parks, Recreation and Tourism is teaming up with American professional soccer player CJ Sapong and his nonprofit organization–Sacred Seeds, along with Black Players for Change, to host a free youth soccer event for middle-school-age children.
Sapong, a Manassas native and Forest Park High School graduate, is currently an American professional soccer player for MLS soccer club Nashville SC. The event will include a motivational talk from Sapong and short competitions (juggling, crossbar challenge, and skills).
