MANASSAS, Va. – Republican gubernatorial candidate Winsome Earle‑Sears showed up ready to speak at the Prince William County School Board meeting Tuesday night—but says she was denied the opportunity because she doesn’t live in the county.

Prince William police arrested a Manassas man wanted for a domestic-related carjacking in July. Investigators say Peshwaz Azad Waise, 37, forcefully removed a 63-year-old family member from her car during an argument and drove off. He was taken into custody on Sept. 1 and faces carjacking and assault charges.
Also in Manassas, officers arrested James Roger Thomas Jr., 58, in connection to a July assault at the Rimpal Inn, where a man was beaten after trying to break up a fight. Thomas faces an attempted malicious wounding charge.

Sears will appear alongside her lieutenant governor running mate, John Reid, national Moms for Liberty co-founder Tina Descovich, and the group’s Prince William County chapter chair. The group plans a press conference and rally at 6:15 p.m. outside the Edward L. Kelly Leadership Center at Independent Hill, before the School Board meeting.
A man from Woodbridge faces more than a dozen charges, including aggravated sexual battery and indecent liberties, following an investigation by the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. The case involves incidents dating back to 2020 with a victim under the age of 13.
Police also arrested a 17-year-old male after a shooting at Bar Louie in Gainesville, where he and another man were both injured. The juvenile faces multiple serious charges, including aggravated malicious wounding and use of a firearm in a felony.
DUMFRIES, Va. – The Prince William Chamber of Commerce’s new board chair, Jinnae Monroe, was recognized this month by the Dumfries Town Council for her historic appointment. Monroe is the first Black woman to lead the chamber’s board of directors, a role she will hold for the next year.
The council presented a proclamation commending her “professional achievements, entrepreneurial vision, and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.” While the proclamation referred to her as president, Monroe clarified that she serves as board chair, working alongside Bob Sweeney, the chamber’s president and CEO.

WOODBRIDGE, Va. – The Prince William County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office said a 38-year-old cold case involving the abduction and rape of a local gas station clerk has finally been solved—thanks to cutting-edge DNA technology and years of relentless police work.
On August 21, a jury convicted Russell Marubbio, 54, of Florida, for the brutal 1987 assault that took place at a Chevron station on Jefferson Davis Highway in Woodbridge. Prosecutors say this marks the first time in U.S. legal history that rare “somatic mutations” in identical twins’ DNA were used to distinguish and convict one twin.
DUMFRIES, Va. — Wawa is set to open its newest Northern Virginia store in Dumfries on September 4, offering free coffee, t-shirts, and a hoagie-building contest featuring first responders.

PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. — A Prince William County jury has convicted Lisa Gaye Myers, 60, of voluntary manslaughter in the 2021 shooting death of her ex-boyfriend and tenant, Travis Kelly Deardorff. The verdict reduces her potential sentence to a maximum of 10 years in prison.
Myers was initially indicted of first-degree murder for the November 27, 2021, shooting inside her home on Bradford Lane, near Independent Hill. Police said Myers called 911 after shooting Deardorff in the head during an argument. He later died at a hospital.
