It’s been nearly a month since OmniRide drivers went on strike, leaving those in Prince William and Stafford counties without a guaranteed ride.
Today, Teamsters Local 639 is set to take a vote on a new contract that could end the strike today at noon.
The drainage issues, with no renovations, have been an even bigger issue during rainy seasons. As a result of a slit build-up in the mulch bed, the drainage water from the parking lot was unable to pass over the hump in the flower bed, said Prince William County spokeswoman Rachel Johnson.
This caused the dirt to slowly erode, and mulch began to build up along the side of the building. The county government’s fleet and facilities management also recognized that the drain boxes did not have header curbs allowing water to flow freely.
As you consider the County’s budget, I request that you repeal the 4% Meals Tax on restaurant food. The following are my reasons.
The tax is unfair and unhealthy. Restaurants prepare fresh food daily; grocery stores sell the same food in frozen, refrigerated, and dehydrated forms. Restaurants like mine start with unadulterated raw ingredients; grocery foods, by necessity, contain chemical preservatives and stabilizers. Cooks who live and pay taxes in the County prepare restaurant food; factory workers in faraway locations manufacture grocery food.
