Prince William County police are investigating a murder-for-hire case following the February 2 shooting death of 23-year-old Egypt Zapporah Carter, who was found fatally shot inside her car near Bronson Ct. and Brickwood Dr. in Dale City. Police have arrested Drew Courtney Buchanan, 27, on charges of second-degree murder, shooting into an occupied vehicle, and firearm use in the commission of a felony. Buchanan was arrested on October 15 in Manassas and is being held without bond.

An arrest warrant has been issued for a second suspect, Denzel Scott Wade, 30, who was allegedly present at the shooting scene. Police are actively searching for Wade and urge anyone with information on his whereabouts to contact them.

“By allowing approved contractors to utilize same-day automated permitting, the SolarAPP+ initiative is poised to revolutionize the residential solar permitting landscape in the county,” Mandi Spina, the director of the Department of Development Services, said.

Approved contractors through the county will be able to submit their projects through the SolarAPP+ system, which checks for county-required criteria to ensure compliance. This system can issue permits on the same day.

In advance of the upcoming Veterans Day holiday, Stafford County announced plans to illuminate the George L. Gordon, Jr., Government Center and the Stafford Armed Services Memorial green from October 24 – November 11 as part of Operation Green Light for Veterans, a nationwide effort uniting counties to support military veterans. The initiative, led by the National Association of Counties (NACo), raises awareness about the unique challenges faced by many veterans and the resources available at the county, state, and federal levels to assist veterans and their families.

Just before midnight Saturday, October 26th, SCFR units were alerted to a reported structure fire in the 500 block of Wyne Drive, near Warrenton Road. A Stafford County ambulance returning from the hospital spotted the fire and relayed information to dispatch, while additional calls came in. Other SCFR units arrived on scene approximately five minutes later to find three detached buildings, including a chicken coop, on fire. The fire was brought under control in approximately 10 minutes, with minor impact to the adjacent residence.

None of the occupants in the residence reported injuries. While multiple chickens did not survive, several others did. The fire is under investigation by the Stafford County Fire Marshal’s Office.

On October 25, 2024 at 1:00am Sergeant R. Lewis located a single vehicle crash while on patrol in the 6600 block of Lawyers Rd. The vehicle was traveling east on Lawyers Rd when it lost control striking a guardrail then overturned down an embankment.
