10 a.m. Friday, January 17 | The House Republicans in Richmond will get their secure briefing on the alleged threats facing the capitol plaza.

The briefing will take place in a secure location this afternoon, House J. Garren Shipley told Potomac Local this morning. Republicans pushed for more information following Gov. Ralph Northam’s gun ban ahead of Monday’s right-to-bear-arms rally planned for the capitol grounds on Monday.


Prince William police are asking for help in nabbing the man suspected in an October 2019 bank robbery in Woodbridge.

Following news of the Governor Ralph Northam’s plans to invest nearly $4 billion to passenger rail, and to hike the gas tax, transportation officials are planning another round of meetings on Interstate 95.

They estimate it will cost $12.5 billion to add a new lane in each direction of the interstate, between Thornburg and the Occoquan River. When it is done, they said, it’ll already be congested.

Newly unsealed documents show the Stafford County School Board’s legal counsel advised against passing protections for transgender students.

It did it anyway, after more than 400 people filled the Board Chambers and, after six hours of public testimony at a Sept. 10, 2019 meeting. The most polarizing additions to the school division’s existing policy that came with the decision now provided protections for “sexual orientation” of students, staff, and faculty, and addressed “gender identity” in the updated policy.

From the Prince William County Planning office to the county executive’s suite: Rebecca Horner will replace Chris Price as a deputy county executive, who left the county last fall to take a new job as the city manager in Chesapeake.

County press release | Following an extensive national search, the County Executive appointed Rebecca Horner as a Deputy County Executive for Community Development. The Board of County Supervisors concurred with the County Executive’s decision to appoint Horner, who will begin the position effective immediately.

Fredericksburg press release | The signal cable and equipment at Prince Edward and George streets near Hurkamp Park are beyond repair.

Our Public Works crew has set the signal to flashing red on both the Prince Edward Street and the George Street approaches and has added temporary stop signs to the intersection. The City is working with Kimley-Horn consultants to study whether the signalized intersection is warranted or if it can be decommissioned and another method of traffic control be implemented.
