The Haymarket Town Council on Oct. 5 held a public hearing and then approved an amendment to the adopted fiscal year 2026-27 budget.

The amendment increases the adopted budget by nearly $194,000 using reserve funds and grant funding. The public hearing was held at Haymarket Town Hall, 15000 Washington St., Suite 100. No members of the public spoke. The hearing was closed, then the regular meeting continued.

Operational changes include a revenue increase of $59,977 in grant funding. American Rescue Plan Act funds of $1.1 million were reallocated to use of fund balance. Capital improvement funds increase by $157,492 for post office building expenses.

On the police side, the amended budget decreases by $20,000 for part-time administration. Salary and wages increase by $79,977 for a community resource officer.

The resolution number was stated inconsistently on the tape as both 2026-010 and 2027-010. The motion passed on a roll-call vote with the ayes recorded.

Town Treasurer Roberto Gonzalez and Town Clerk Kim were referenced during the discussion. Mayor TracyLynn Pater presided.

The new overall budget figure was stated on the tape as $470,703,962. That figure is flagged as a likely speech-to-text error. No corrected total is available from the recording.

The amendment uses reserve funds and grant funding. No further details on the purpose of the ARPA reallocation were given beyond the reallocation itself.

No members of the public spoke.
