Quantico to Caroline: Expect overnight traffic stops this week

Paying for the express lanes and other toll roads around the state is made easier with toll apps.

Interstate 95 travelers will see lane closures and full traffic stops overnight this week in the Fredericksburg area at multiple locations, northbound and southbound, between exit 148 (Quantico) in Stafford County and exit 104 (Carmel Church) in Caroline County, for maintenance and construction work.

Crews are building bridges and ramps as part of the future 95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension, while other work zones are needed for inspection of existing I-95 overpasses, and resurfacing travel lanes.

Greetings, Prince William – Outdoor lovers, we have a terrific opportunity for you!  Leopold’s Preserve, located at 16290 Thoroughfare Road, Broad Run 20137, needs volunteers to help remove invasive plants from their upland depression swamp on August 6, 9 am-12 pm.  No experience is necessary; you’ll get on-the-job training and enjoy the beautiful park!  Meet at their parking lot at 16290 Thoroughfare Road, then walk to the project site together.  Long sleeves, long pants, sturdy close-toed shoes and gardening gloves are a must.  Sunscreen and bug spray are needed, and bring plenty of water.  Please visit https://bit.ly/3RjL4eS to sign up. Winning Mega Millions tickets sold in Gainesville, Stafford

Lottery contestants lined up inside a Wawa gas station in North Stafford to purchase tickets from an automated lottery ticket vending machine on July 29, 2022.

During the 29 drawings of the jackpot run that began in April and ended with Friday night’s $1 billion drawing, sales of Mega Millions tickets in Virginia generated an estimated $30.2 million in profit. By law, all of that profit goes to K-12 public education in the Commonwealth.

While the overall winning ticket was not sold in Virginia, in Friday night’s drawing alone, more than 405,000 Mega Millions tickets bought in Virginia won prizes. That includes four tickets that matched four of the first five numbers plus the Mega Ball number. Normally that wins $10,000, however, one of those players spent an extra dollar for the Megaplier when they bought the ticket. The Megaplier doubled that prize to $20,000.
