Aquia Harbour Host Lions collect 3,905 pounds of electronic junk

Press Release: “The Aquia Harbour Host Lions were out supporting the Household Hazardous Waste Day collecting all the electrical and electronic waste. 3,905lbs of electronic in addition to hundreds of cell phones, laptops, and ink cartridges, were able to be recycled by the Lions.”

“The students from Brooke Point High School Vstar were on hand to work with the Lions, disabling items while identifying multiple desktop computers and monitors that they will be able to wipe and refurbish to provide to people in our area who cannot afford a home computer.”

Stafford residents have more time to pay personal property taxes

Stafford County Supervisor Crystal Vanuch: “I have great news… remember a few weeks ago when I said I was introducing a request for more time to pay personal property taxes due in December? Well, it passed our Board 6-1 on Tuesday! They are now penalty-free until January 5, and you will have more time to make those payments.”

“Personal property tax bills go out at the beginning of November. These bills are due December 5th. With the impending government shutdown on top of difficult economic conditions, I think allowing residents an additional 30 days, penalty-free, to pay these bills is necessary. The bills will be penalty-free until January 5th.”

X-Golf Coming to Spotsylvania Towne Centre

Spotsylvania Towne Centre: “X-Golf is getting ready to open its doors in the first quarter of 2024. The 8,500 square foot golf simulation experience will be located near Park Lane Tavern, in The Village section of the complex.”

Stafford to honor vets on Thursday, November 9

Stafford County Government: “Stafford County will hold its annual Veterans Day Ceremony on Thursday, November 9, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at the Armed Services Memorial on the Stafford County Government campus. All veterans and the public are invited to join Stafford in recognizing all who have served our country. As well the ceremony will be streamed on Facebook Live at www.facebook.com/staffordcountygovernment.”

“The keynote speaker for the ceremony is Steve Cox, President and Chief Executive Officer at Rappahannock Goodwill Industries. Cox served for 23 years and one month in the United States Marine Corps, where he served as Public Affairs Officer and Commander/Executive/Operations Officer.”

Lock your cars at Government Island

Stafford County Sheriff’s Office: “Government Island, 191 Coal Landing Road, 10/19, 1:38 p.m. Resident reported credit cards were stolen from her vehicle while she hiked the trail on Government Island. The thief was a voracious shopper as they racked up $4,557 in charges at Walmart within an hour.”

Government Island, a historic 18th and 19th-century quarry site provided Aquia sandstone for the construction of the U.S. Capitol and the White House and other historic buildings in Washington, D.C.

Kiefer named HMI Executive Director

Historic Manassas Inc.: “Historic Manassas, Inc. (HMI) has named Kristen Kiefer as its new Executive Director. Kiefer has served as HMI’s Interim Executive Director since April 2023 and will oversee the organization’s efforts to sustain revitalization efforts of Historic Downtown Manassas as a Virginia Main Street program.”

“A contract was awarded to Howard Shockey & Sons, Inc. in the amount of $139,334,000 for the construction of High School 6 during the September 12, 2023, regular School Board meeting.”

The school will sit near a Walmart on Route 17 in southern Stafford County.
