The sunflowers are in bloom and ready for picking at Burnside Farms in Nokesville.

Every summer in the middle of July, when the sunflowers bloom, Burnside Farms holds the Summer of Sunflowers: a sunflower festival that allows guests to pick sunflowers and participate in various fun activities. While certain portions of the event will be different this year due to the new coronavirus, namely their famous ‘sunflower maze,’ an abundance of sunflowers will still be available for guests to pick and take home.


For all the brunch lovers out there, Ornery Beer Company has announced its hours so you can stop by and satisfy your brunch cravings.

Every Saturday and Sunday, Ornery Beer Company will be serving brunch from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Customers can choose a variety of brunch plate options like biscuits and gravy, chicken and waffles, steak and eggs, smoked salmon benedict, and more with a side of arugula salad.


A colorful beer has been added to the menu at Old Bust Head Brew and it is available on draft and to-go for customers to come and try.

Old Bust Head Brew calls it: Summer Cherry Wit. It is a tart brew that is made with sweet and sour cherry puree, according to Old Bust Head Brew’s Twitter post.


The G. Richard Pfitzner Stadium in Woodbridge was once home to minor league baseball, but it will soon become a temporary drive-in theater. 

The idea, called ‘Movies at the Pfitz,’ was conceived by Ben Hazekamp, a financial advisor, and Valerie Meale, a business development manager at Whitlock Wealth Management in Lake Ridge. They contacted Seth Hendler-Voss, Director of Prince William County Parks and Recreation, who supported the idea and aided in making it possible.


Two unrelated Stafford women won the top prizes for two different lottery games and both plan on spending it on a new house.

 Anya Dennis received a phone call from her husband excitingly telling her that they matched all five numbers for the Cash 5 Lottery Game. According to a Virginia Lottery press release, the couple had bought 12 tickets for an upcoming June 14 drawing with all the same numbers.


An initiative between Manassas Councilwoman Theresa Coates Ellis and Old Town Strong, a charitable group formed to aid city businesses in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, has a mission to renovate a foster care visitation room children by collecting donations when customers purchase a pint of cold brew.

Computer engineer wins over $700,000 after choosing between two lottery tickets from his mom after she bought them from a local gas station.

George “Leo” Cayetano was driving his mother home from the grocery store when they stopped for gas at SAI Express at 17164 Jefferson Davis Highway in Dumfries. His mother went inside the store and bought one Scratcher ticket for each of them. When she returned to their car, she let him choose which ticket he wanted.


At the end of March, House of Mercy started a mask-making initiative to make 5,000 masks to donate to healthcare workers. Now, they have met and surpassed that goal with 5,308 masks made.

House of Mercy is a non-profit organization working to provide food, clothing, education, and prayer to those in need. Each month, they work with over 500 families through their food pantry and thrift store to supply their basic needs.


Doris Woodring, a long-time resident of 25 years in Westminster at Lake Ridge in Lake Ridge celebrated her supercentenarian, 110th birthday on Tuesday, June 9, outdoors in a small courtyard at WLR.

Family members, including Her three daughters and two granddaughters, traveled from Maryland, Deleware, Pennsylvania, and Texas to this celebration for a beloved matriarch, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and godmother — known to many as GiGi, mom, and the “Energizer Bunny.”
