The Manassas City School Board is set to vote to raise the salary of Superintendent Dr. Kevin Newman at its meeting on Tuesday.

The chief executive of the school system currently makes just over $200,000 a year. With the four-percent raise the School Board is considering for Newman, he’ll make about $209,000 per year, should the Board approve the raise.

Republican Maria Martin is running to unseat Democrat Luke Torian in the 52nd House of Delegates District in Prince William County.

This is her second bid for the seat in as many years. When you compare her fundraising numbers to Torian, an 11-year incumbent who has raked in more than a half-million dollars in donations from beer makers, Realtors, and Dominion Energy, Martin’s paltry $4,700 makes this campaign resemble a David and Goliath-style battle.

The effort to extend the runway at Stafford Regional Airport got a major boost from the Federal Government.

Senator Tim Kaine announced the airport would get $5.5 million in federal funding. The airport is currently working to extend the airport’s runway by 1,000 feet to attract more planes to the region.

The ball is in motion to transform the heart of Stafford County into a livable, walkable downtown.

The Board of Supervisors approved its own request to rezone six acres of land next to the county’s iconic courthouse, clearing the way for 306 new apartments, as well as commercial space for retail stores and restaurants. In a rare move, the Board of Supervisors initiated the rezoning request, which, now that it is approved, allows developers to construct a more densely packed urban development than the original plan of building multiple one-level office buildings.

Stafford County Circuit Court Judge Victoria B. Willis tossed out a lawsuit aimed at delaying a decision by the Stafford Board of Supervisors to rezone six acres of land next to the county’s iconic courthouse, known as Fountain Park.

A private developer is seeking a zoning reclassification to build up to 94 apartment homes on the property, more than currently allowed.

Suzanne Youngkin, the wife of Virginia Republican Governor hopeful Glenn Youngkin, is speaking out on the state of education in the commonwealth and on the fight over critical race theory.

In Virginia, and in school board meetings across the U.S., parents have lined up to protest critical race theory, belief that white supremacy exists in the U.S. despite the rule of law. Nearly half of U.S. states have banned critical race theory, as opponents say the practice pits citizens against one another by race.

Occoquan Town leaders are set to make a big decision on what could be the tallest building in town.

The Town Council is scheduled to vote on Tuesday on whether or not to approve The Mill at Occoquan, a planned 5-story building that would be built on Mill Street, across from Town Hall. The building would include 52 apartments, and street-level retail space, as well as a space for a restaurant and terrace overlooking the Occoquan River.
