MANASSAS, Va. — The Prince William Health District (PWHD) in collaboration with the Community Healthcare Coalition of Greater Prince William (Coalition) released its 2025 Community Health Assessment (CHA) report. The CHA is a comprehensive report that highlights the health status, needs, and strengths of Greater Prince William. This assessment includes a robust analysis of local health data and community perspectives captured through a health survey and community conversations.

Attorney General Miyares Announces Action Against Deceptive Cancer Charity Fundraising Scheme

RICHMOND, Va. — Attorney General Jason Miyares today announced that his office, along with the Federal Trade Commission and 18 other states, has shut down a deceptive charity fundraising scheme and its operators who made false or deceptive claims to donors. This resolution restricts future fundraising and secures $550,000 for distribution to cancer-related charities.

Kars-R-Us.com, Inc. (Kars) and its operators solicited charitable donations nationwide on behalf of United Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc. (UBCF), a charity that claims to assist individuals affected by breast cancer, according to a complaint filed by Virginia, the FTC and other states. Kars claimed that vehicle donations would allow UBCF to “save lives” by providing free and low-cost breast cancer screenings. In reality, however, only $126,815 or 0.28% of the more than $45 million that Kars raised was used to provide breast cancer screenings, the complaint alleges.

Free paper shredding event coming to Woodbridge in November

WOODBRIDGE, Va. – Prince William County is offering residents a free and confidential way to get rid of old papers—just in time for a fall clean-out.

The county’s Solid Waste Division will host a document shredding event on Saturday, November 22, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., or until the shredding trucks are full. It’ll be held in the Prince William Stadium parking lot at 7 County Complex Court in Woodbridge.

Howell Branch Celebrates 15 Years of Service

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Central Rappahannock Regional Library’s William J. Howell Branch is celebrating 15 years of service on Thursday, October 9. A brief ceremony with refreshments will be held at 4 p.m. The branch is located at 806 Lyons Boulevard in Stafford County. Howell Branch’s anniversary celebration is open to the public and free of charge.

Opened in 2010 as England Run Branch, the library was renamed in 2018 to honor William J. FREDERICKSBURG, Va. — GWRideConnect conducted its annual slug survey and observed significant activity at the Staffordboro and Warrenton Road Park and Ride lots.

At the Warrenton Road lot, surveyors counted 42 vehicles picking up 104 riders on Tuesday, September 9th. This marks the most substantial slugging presence at the Rt. 17 lot since before the pandemic. “Slugging at Rt. 17 is alive and well,” said Kerry McKenney, GWRideConnect Program Coordinator. “There is plenty of room for more commuters to join in, and many riders expressed interest in seeing greater participation.”

15 graduate from Prince William police academy’s 61st class

BRISTOW, Va. – Fourteen new Prince William County Police officers and one Sheriff’s Deputy graduated from the county’s Criminal Justice Academy on September 24 during a ceremony at Grace Life Community Church in Bristow.

The 15 recruits completed a 24-week course covering everything from firearms and patrol tactics to legal training and crash investigations. Graduates will now begin patrol assignments across the county, with officers deployed in eastern, central, and western Prince William.
