RICHMOND – Over the objections of eight Republicans, the House of Delegates on Friday approved the creation of a specialty license plate with the message “Stop Gun Violence.”

The House voted 89-8 with one abstention in favor of a bill to authorize the new plate and earmark proceeds from its sales to mental health and other services.

RICHMOND — Virginia’s first Latina lawmaker delivered the Democrats’ Spanish-language response to President Trump’s State of the Union address on Tuesday, saying he “has pushed a dark and extremist agenda that damages our national values and endangers national security.”

Del. Elizabeth Guzmán, a first-term delegate representing Virginia’s 31st District, criticized the Trump administration for actions she considered discriminatory. Those actions included rescinding protections for certain young immigrants under the Deferred Action For Childhood Arrivals program and, in Guzmán’s view, Trump’s lack of action in providing citizens in Puerto Rico with hurricane relief.

The Prince William County Service Authority’s annual Water Art Invitational is right around the corner, so high schoolers should get their artwork to us before it’s too late.

Please bring submissions with completed registration forms, photo releases and artwork labels (taped on the back of the artwork) to the Service Authority’ Raymond Spittle Building, located at 4 County Complex Ct., Woodbridge, by 5:00 p.m. on February 14.

STAFFORD COUNTY — Katie Mount is a fourth-grade student at Park Ridge Elementary School in Stafford County.

When she’s not at school her mom, Kelly, says she likes to make slime. She watches YouTube videos to learn what colors to make and to get the right consistency of the group. She also likes to eat at Chick-fil-A.
