WOODBRIDGE — The Woodbridge Campus of Nothern Virginia Community College will reopen today for the first time in a week.
A water pipe burst inside one of the Seedfeldt Building on January 24, which prompted the closure. That building contains the most classrooms on the campus, school officials tell us.
First Friday is back and it is time for the 4th Annual Souper Bowl!
On Friday, February 2, from 6 to 9p.m., merchants in Historic Downtown Manassas will be hosting restaurants and serving up soup. This year, 18 locations will feature soups, ranging from chili to gumbo and more.

Deputies with the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office arrested a suspect on Sunday for attempting to rob two individuals at gunpoint who had decided not to purchase a cell phone from the suspect.

On Wednesday, the Senate Transportation Committee killed my legislation to authorize temporary driving permits for Virginians who cannot show legal immigration status but can pass a driving test and are paying Virginia taxes. Numerous studies in the fifteen states who have done this have shown that it reduces collisions, hit and run incidents, increases reporting other crimes to law enforcement, and results in significantly increased tax collections. The bill died on a party-line vote 7-8 after over three hundred people jammed the room and testified about how a lack of driving privileges affected them on a daily basis.
Wandering is a significant issue for people living with Alzheimer’s and related dementias and their loved ones. According to the Alzheimer’s Association, three of five people with Alzheimer’s disease will wander. If not found within 24 hours, up to half of the individuals who wander will suffer serious injury or death.
The Home Instead Senior Care network is extending its support to this important area of Alzheimer’s education through a web service at MissingSeniorNetwork.com that is designated to help family caregivers locate individuals with dementia who become lost. This is an important and potentially lifesaving area of Alzheimer’s support.

Shooting Investigation – On January 28 at 2:33AM, officers responded to the 8300 block of Sudley Rd in Manassas (20109) to investigate a shooting. When officers arrived, they located an adult male suffering from gunshot wounds to the arm and lower body. Officers used their Department issued trauma kits to provide immediate first-aid to the victim before rescue crews arrived on scene. The victim, identified as a 24-year-old man of Manassas, was flown to an area hospital with serious injuries. The initial investigation by detectives with the Violent Crimes Bureau determined that the victim and an unknown male were involved in a verbal altercation inside of the Uptown Alley located inside of the Manassas Mall. When the business closed, another altercation between the two parties occurred in the parking lot. During that encounter, the unknown male brandished a firearm and shot the victim before fleeing the area. Officers searched the area for the suspect who was not located. The investigation continues.
