Update

The Area Agency on Aging, which serves PrinceWilliamCounty, Manassas and ManassasPark has issued the following announcement on its services for today:


Traffic

As a result, VRE has made the decision not to operate service on Friday, September 9. With more rain expected overnight, we prefer to give the railroads the time they need to ensure that the tracks are fully operational. In addition, because the track issues happened during service, several of our train sets are currently being housed in our mid-day storage yard in DC, making the logistics even more complicated.

News

All Virginia Railway Express trains headed south on the Fredericksburg line are being stopped at Franconia due to high water.

The transit agency water is washing out track ballasts and the trains cannot go any further.

Initial reports indicated some students were being moved from Woodbridge Middle School to another nearby school, however they were false. 

There are unconfirmed reports that children from Woodbridge Middle School are being moved to nearby Fred M. Lynn Middle School because of flooding at the school. We’re told the students who are moved there will be dismissed from Fred Lynn Middle.

Woodbridge, Va. — The doctor’s office in Woodbridge known for funny banners has done it again.

Hanging above the front entrance to Potomac Plaza on Smoketown Road, just across from Potomac Mills mall, is a banner that states: Potty like a rock star.

Fredericksburg, Va. — An earthquake that lasted 22 seconds, centered 38 miles away from Mary Washington University, damaged every building on campus.

That’s the latest report from the student newspaper at the Fredericksburg school filed after the 5.8 magnitude quake that rocked the East Coast on Aug. 23.

It’s hard to believe that 10 years have passed since 9/11, the tragedy that changed our country forever. All of us who are old enough to remember that day can recall where we were when we first heard the news that a plane had struck the World Trade Center in New York City.

At the time I was stationed at Fort Meade, Md. serving as the Director of Operations for the 70th Intelligence Wing, the Air Force component of the National Security Agency. I had left the Pentagon two months earlier.

Woodbridge, Va. — The staff at the Greater Prince William Health Center in Woodbridge on Tuesday thanked Rep. Gerry Connolly (D, 11 – Fairfax, Prince William) for helping them find $1.1 million to stay in business.

The congressman was presented an advocacy award from the National Association of Community Health Centers, and was nominated for the national prize by the staff at the Woodbridge health care center.
