Swimmer Drowns in Backyard Pool

North Stafford, Va. –– A man pulled from a swimming pool on Monday afternoon has died.

Shawn Aschan, 42, was pronounced dead at Stafford Hospital Center after he was pulled from a swimming pool at a home on Toluca Road, off Garrisonville Road (Va. 610).

Aschan is believed to have drowned sometime between 5 and 6 p.m. Monday, said Stafford sheriff’s spokesman Bill Kennedy.

The victim was in the process of selling his home and was staying with friends in a home on Toluca Road. Aschan’s family moved to the western U.S. as part of a job transfer, said Kennedy.

The victim was found by a resident of the home who went to look for him about 10 to 15 minutes after dinner had been prepared. Aschan was found foating in the pool, added Kennedy.

The resident of the home began performing CPR on the victim, and rescue crews took over the resuscitation effort after they arrived.

He was taken to Stafford Hospital Center where he was later pronounced dead.

No charges have been filed, but authorities are awaiting a final report from the state medical examiner’s office in Richmond to determine the cause of death.
