Woodbridge, Va. — Arrests of members of Prince William County’s fire and rescue department has its chief fuming.
In a memo released Friday, Chief Kevin McGee condemned what he called an “alarming and unacceptable” number of DUI-related arrests of employees.
“I know you realize that society does not condone impaired driving, and if any profession should be setting the example it should be fire and rescue,” McGee stated in the memo.
No one from the department was immediately available for comment Friday afternoon, and it’s unclear if the release was prompted by a specific arrest.
The memo does, however, come after veteran Prince William County firefighter Kevin McParkland was found guilty of DUI after police arrested him in the Manassas area in December.
McParkland was sentenced to pay a $500 fine, served four days of a 60-day sentence and had his license suspended for six months, according to Virginia court documents.
McGee says new policies and procedures will be developed in order to address members who have been charged with DUI.
