The Hilda M. Barg Homeless Prevention Center in Woodbridge is getting a new kitchen.
The shelter, named after former Woodbridge supervisor Hilda Barg, is a 30-bed emergency facility.
According to county documents, the Prince William County Department of Social Services received $100,000 from a community service trust, in order to do the renovations. The board approved the appropriation of funds at their August 4 meeting.
At the shelter, volunteers from the Cooperative Council of Ministries provide daily meals to shelter residents, and they noted that it was time to upgrade the equipment and storage space in the kitchen, according to county documents.
County documents stated that if funds are leftover from the kitchen renovations, the Department of Social Services will replace furniture and computer equipment on site.
“We are working with the Cooperative Council of Ministries to determine the specifics. We haven’t gotten very far because the Board of County Supervisors (BOCS) just approved the appropriation” stated Courtney S. Tierney, the Director of the Department of Social Services.
