Update
Fire and rescue officials at Widewater Elementary School on Monday afternoon found no sign of fire.
The school building was evacuated just before the end of the regular school day about 3:30 p.m. after someone reported smelling smoke.
Fire and rescue crews were called to the school where they searched the building and the roof but found no sign of smoke, said Stafford schools spokeswoman Valerie Cottongim.
Students were allowed back into the building and were dismissed as usual about 20 minutes after fire officials finished their investigation.
