GAINESVILLE, Va. – On October 14, a 39-year-old man was hospitalized and died as a result of his injuries due to a crash. Police say the victim, who drove a 2011 GMC Denali, was struck by the driver of a 1992 Honda Accord when it was making a right turn. The driver of the Denali lost control and then struck a concrete pillar. The other car stayed at the scene, with no injuries.

Crash – Fatality – On October 14th at 9:54PM, investigators from the Crash Investigation Unit responded to the area of Lee Hwy near the I-66 overpass in Gainesville (20155) to investigate a vehicle crash. The investigation revealed that the driver of a 2011 GMC Denali was making a right turn onto Lee Hwy from Linton Hall Rd when the vehicle struck the driver of a 1992 Honda Accord who was making a left onto Lee Hwy. Following that collision, the driver of the Denali continued northbound on Lee Hwy at a high rate of speed and eventually lost control. At one point, the vehicle became airborne and struck a concrete pillar to the I-66 overpass. The driver was transported to an area hospital where he died as a result of his injuries. The other vehicle did remain at the scene, no injuries were reported. Speed and alcohol appear to be factors in this crash. The investigation continues.
