Lorton, Va. –– Partial skeletal remains have been found in Lorton.
A man walking along Furnace Road on Tuesday called police and reported seeing the remains near the bottom of a railroad bridge just off of the road, said Fairfax County police spokeswoman Tawny Wright.
The remains have been sent to the state’s medical examiner for identification, and detectives today are in the area were the bones were found looking for clues.
The bones were found along the portion of Furnace Road that lies east of U.S. 1.
Last year, a set of human remains were found along Furnace Road, west of U.S. 1, but a photographer who stopped to take a photo of wildlife in the area.
Those remains were also sent to the state medical examiner’s office in Richmond where they remain unidentified.
It’s not clear if both sets of found remains are related.
