Good Humor: Cool Cow Plans First ‘Clean’ Comedy Show

STAFFORD COUNTY, Va. — Cool Cow Comedy has been known to produce “100% organic laughter” since it opened just over a year ago.

Rahmein Mostafavi was prompted to start Cool Cow Comedy, a string of live stand-up comedy shows in at the Workhouse Arts Center in Lorton, in Fredericksburg, in Richmond, and in Rockville, Md., because he is a comedian as well.

“There are more comedians than there are clubs,” he said.

He realized that in this area there are only three or four comedy clubs that open every weekend. Mostafavi wanted there to be successful comedy clubs conveniently located for residents in the Washington area.

Normally, one must be 18 years or older to attend these live shows; however, Cool Cow Comedy is having its first all-ages show, called the Clean Adult Comedy, at Riverside Center in south Stafford on July 20. When not hosting comedy, the stage is features Broadway theatre.

Although the Clean Adult Comedy show will not use curse words, it is not targeted for kids.

“Children will not necessarily have a good time because the content will be hard for them to understand. But if a family wants to bring their 12 or 15 year old, that’s fine,” Mostafavi said.

He also stressed the importance of adult supervision or an adult’s presence.

“Yes it is clean, but we don’t want to offend people or make the comedians uncomfortable – that’s not our job. Our job is to make the audience laugh,” he said.

According to Mostafavi, an adult church group would have a good time at the Clean Adult Comedy show.

Without a doubt, switching from uncensored comedy to complete reservation is a huge transition. Mostafavi admits that he is not a clean comic. He is able to make clean jokes for ten or fifteen minutes, but to come across a clean comic that can keep the audience laughing for over an hour is hard to find today.

Because of this, clean comics tend to be more expensive. Robert Mac is the clean comic that will be performing on the 20th.

Will Cool Cow Comedy produce Clean Adult Comedy after the 20th?

“My job is to make people laugh. I can produce it (clean comedy) as long as I find the comic. But because there are so few clean comics, Cool Cow Comedy will only have The Clean Adult Comedy shows once in a while,” Mostafavi said.

Tickets for the “clean” July 20 show are $17 before the show and $20 at the door.
