Road Rage, Loose Dog Lead to Fatalities

FROM POLICE REPORTS

Crash – Fatality

On October 26th at 4:32PM, police responded to the area of the Prince William Pkwy and Yates Ford Rd in Manassas (20111) for a crash involving a pedestrian. The investigation revealed that the driver of a 2012 Ford F-350 and the driver of a 2000 Dodge Dakota were both traveling westbound on Yates Ford Rd in Fairfax County when the driver of the Dodge pickup began to tailgate the other driver.

As both drivers entered Prince William County, both stopped at the traffic light at the Prince William Pkwy and Yates Ford Rd, pulling next to one another. At that point, the driver of the Dodge pickup exited his vehicle and approached the other vehicle. The driver began to climb through a half opened passenger window in an attempt to engage in a physical fight with that driver.

The driver of the Ford pickup began to move his vehicle forward, at which point, the other driver fell and was run over by the truck. That driver [pedestrian] was ground transported to an area hospital where he died.

This crash stemmed from a road rage incident and is considered a pedestrian involved crash since no contact was made between the vehicles. At this point, no charges have been filed. Drugs and alcohol do not appear to be factors in this crash. The investigation continues.

Identified:

The pedestrian [also the driver of the 2000 Dodge Dakota] was identified as Brian David SAMF, 47, of no fixed address

The driver of the 2012 Ford F-350 was identified as a 38 year old man of Manassas

The investigation revealed that the driver of a 2012 Mazda 3 was traveling southbound on Spriggs Rd near Lindendale Rd and struck a pedestrian who was attempting to cross over Spriggs Rd at the same time. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

It is believed the pedestrian was attempting to catch his dog that had run away. The dog was also struck and killed in the opposite lanes on Spriggs Rd by an unrelated vehicle. The pedestrian was in an unlit area of Spriggs Rd at the time of the collision. Drugs, alcohol and speed do not appear to be factors in this crash. The driver was not determined to be at fault in the crash and was not charged.

Identified:

The pedestrian was identified as Erwin Jose VALDEZ PEREZ, 56, of Woodbridge

The driver of the 2010 Mazda 3 was identified as a 19 year old woman of Woodbridge
