Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office Seeks Public’s Help in Double Murder Investigation

The Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s assistance in gathering information regarding the double homicide that took place on January 25, 2025, on Heatherwood Drive.

Detectives are seeking any details from residents in the area who may have noticed suspicious activity, have video footage, or possess information—no matter how small—between Monday, January 20, 2025, and Saturday, January 25, 2025. Authorities believe even seemingly minor details could be crucial to advancing the investigation.

“The Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office is seeking assistance in obtaining information in reference to the double murder that occurred on January 25, 2025, in the 10800 block of Heatherwood Drive,” the department stated in an update. “Detectives are requesting citizens in that area who may have observed any suspicious activity, have video footage, or have any information, no matter how seemingly insignificant, to please contact the Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office or provide an anonymous tip through Spotsylvania Crime Solvers.”

The victims in this case, 61-year-old Charles Childress and 59-year-old Kimberly Newcomb, were found deceased in their home with fatal gunshot wounds. The Sheriff’s Office has been actively investigating the case, processing evidence, and conducting interviews but has yet to name any suspects.
