Potomac River Orthodontics, just off Hoadly Road in Woodbridge, is partnering with the nonprofit Smiles Change Lives to offer affordable orthodontic care to local children.
Press Release
Thanks to their partnership with the nonprofit Smiles Change Lives, Potomac River Orthodontics is giving local kids a reason to smile. They will be holding an open house event on Monday November 11, 2024 from 9:00am to 6:00pm to screen children for braces through Smiles Change Lives. Registration is encouraged and is currently open to children whose families are struggling to afford necessary orthodontic treatment.
Dr Owais Naeem who grew up as a “brace face” and “metal mouth” himself, has made it his life mission to turn these nicknames into a badge of honor. “I grew up here; this is my hometown; this is the community that raised me; and now it’s time to give back in the best way I know how,” says Dr. Naeem. Dr. Naeem started his practice about a year ago in his hometown with the simple goal of putting a smile on the face of everyone he meets. He looks forward to opening his doors to the greater community.
Smiles Change Lives is a national nonprofit that helps kids get braces who could not otherwise afford them. On average, braces cost $6,500 per child, making them out of reach for many hard-working families. Further, orthodontic treatment has long been considered cosmetic by insurance companies, providing little assistance, even for those that are insured. As a result, many children and teens suffer unnecessary discomfort and embarrassment from their misaligned teeth.
“We are thrilled to be working with the Potomac River Orthodontics team,” says Alexis Barclay, VP of Operations for Smiles Change Lives, “To make a difference in a child’s health and self-confidence feels great and is the reason we are so excited about this event.”
To qualify for the program, a child must be between the ages of 7-18, have good oral hygiene, not be wearing braces currently, have a moderate to severe need for braces, meet certain financial guidelines, are willing to follow SCL program rules and make the required financial investment.
