HAZMAT Crews Train at Prince William Ice Center

DALE CITY, Va. — It was fire and ice at the Prince William Ice Center on Monday.

Fire and rescue crews from Prince William County spent the morning training for a potential HAZMAT situation in an exercise that included 20 department personnel.

The ice center reopened earlier this year after the roof collapsed during a massive snowstorm in 2010. No one was injured.

“The goal of this drill is to simulate an accidental release of a hazardous material, anhydrous ammonia at the Prince William Ice facility. This drill will allow personnel to practice their skills and decision making when it comes to recognizing a hazardous material, performing victim rescues, emergency decontamination for people involved in the incident, patient care, and how to mitigate the hazardous material utilizing the equipment on Prince William’s new hazardous material unit.”
