Life at Kilby Goes On After Principal Arrest

WOODBRIDGE, Va. — Prince William County Public Schools released new information about a principal charged with embezzlement.

Kilby Elementary School Principal Jenny Bermant has been on administrative leave since Monday following an investigation that found she charged $8,000 to a credit card that belonged to the school. The county’s school system launched an internal investigation first and then turned over their findings to police who then placed charges.

The county’s school system released this statement:

–The arrest of Jenny Bermant is distressing to the school community, but regrettably consistent with the findings of the School Division investigation that resulted in her placement on administrative leave, and herreplacement with a new acting principal of Kilby Elementary School.

Distressing as the embezzlement allegations are, they reaffirm that Prince William County Public Schools checks and balances are working to ensure that all Division funds are spent to advance education.

Because Ms. Bermant’s case is a police and personnel matter, PWCS can offer no additional details on the case or its origins.

In contrast, we can confirm that the students and staff of Kilby Elementary are thriving under the leadership of acting Principal Amy Jordan. There will no doubt be sadness surrounding this latest development; but the school, its students, and staff will move forward undeterred. Kilby Elementary will continue to provide A World-Class Education.
