Blackout Hits Lake Ridge

UPDATE
Power was restored to the Lake Ridge area after 11 p.m. Monday.

LAKE RIDGE, Va. — If you live in Lake Ridge, you’re probably not reading this from your home computer.

A massive power outage struck the area just after 8 p.m., when a transmission line near Antietam Elementary School reportedly went down.

Following the blackout, emergency crews reported traffic signals up and down Old Bridge Road out. Some of the signals were restored with emergency power. Other buildings in the area, including a fire and rescue station in Lake Ridge, were operating on a generator.

Initial reports indicate at least 20,000 are in the dark, and repairs were expected to be made “over the next few hours in phases,” said Prince William fire and rescue spokesman Capt. Tom Pearson.
