Lake Ridge, Va. — The relocation of the Lake Ridge Neighborhood Library just got more expensive.
Prince William officials in September voted to move the library into Tackett’s Mill Shopping Center in Lake Ridge from its current location on nearby Harbor Drive.
Originally, library staff estimated moving costs would top out at $60,000, but additional work needs to be done to the new building so it can accommodate the library, according to Prince William County documents.
Now the price tag jumped to $125,000 — $80,000 of which will be paid from library proffer funds and the remaining $40,000 to be paid by the department of public works.
The money will go to fund for the remodeling of the space the library will be housed in, new furniture, new carpet, signage, moving the library’s books and, and for technology expenses, documents state.
For the Lake Ridge library, this is a move back into Tackett’s Mill. The library originally opened in the shopping center in 1985 but moved to Harbor Drive ten years later.
Officials have yet to announce an opening date for the relocated library.
Prince William officials on Tuesday accepted $152,000 in proffer funds from various developers that will be used for the county’s library system.
Nearby Chinn Park Regional Library in Lake Ridge turns 20-years-old this year and will also see some changes.
The facility at the intersection of Prince William Parkway and Old Bridge Road will receive $67,000 to replace an electronic security access and video system, replace the facility’s kitchen, and to renovate staff areas, documents state.
